Mexico Diary - Beautiful Mérida

Hello everyone, did you all have a great week? Mine's been a little crazy. I just got to Germany two days ago, gonna spend Christmas and New Year's Eve with my family like every year. I bet most of you are home now with your families and friends. I just love the Christmas season in Germany, it's much more cozy and beautiful than on my little Spanish island Mallorca.
Even though I got lots of things to do here - meeting family members and friends, doctor appointments, Christmas shopping etc. - I found some time to write a new blog post for you.

Today I'm taking you to the beautiful town of Mérida, the lively and colorful capital of the Yucatán state. I loved that city because of its pretty, colonial houses, cute shops and great food.
We spent only one day in Mérida and spent half of that day in our room at the Hotel Ambassador because we were pretty done after having slept in buses for three days. In the afternoon we finally got up and went for a walk through the town. We passed by the central square, had a delicious lunch/dinner at a restaurant called Huevos Motuleños Y Más and walked down the Paseo de Montejo where you can admire lots of beautiful colonial buildings. We also stopped by a shop called El Estudio where I bought some cute souvenirs for my family. I loved that store, they had all kinds of colorful paintings, figurines, home decor and other cool Mexican souvenirs. Later that day we visited the Museo Casa Montejo, a beautiful mansion that houses a permanent exhibition of historic furnishings. It was really interesting to see how people lived back in the days. To end the day we had some yummy fruit 'paletas', Mexican popsicles, at a place called La Michoacana. Mine was made of watermelon and kiwi, Miguel's was made of mango and chili which he wasn't really into so he ordered a second rainbow paleta, haha.
If you ever visit the Yucatán peninsula you should definitely plan a stopover in Mérida, it's full of history, great shops, restaurants and lovely people.
