Excursion to Penya des Migdia

Dear readers, I hope you are all doing fine. Since we are allowed to leave our houses here in Mallorca I have enjoyed being out in nature so much. The weather is simply amazing now in June so my friends and I have gone hiking quite a few times since the lockdown ended. Today I will take you on a virtual hike with me and my friend Mar up to the Penya des Migdia in Alcúdia. This top excursion has everything that makes hiking exciting.

How to get up to the Penya des Migdia

The medium difficult excursion starts at the parking lot of the Ermita de la Victòria. To the right of the former monastery, a wide path (sign "Talaia d´ Alcúdia, Collet des Coll Baix, Refugi") leads past a restaurant. Around 15 minutes after the start of the tour, you reach a place where you will find a wooden railing and steps on the left. Take this narrow path on the left because the route to Talaia d´Alcúdia runs straight ahead. The path then leads upwards, at first quite flat and then slightly up and down. From this first part of the trail you can already enjoy a spectacular view of the Bay of Pollença and the Formentor peninsula.

The hike leads on a narrow path directly along the cliffs to a narrow passage through an old watchtower. Once you have passed this tower you will have to climb the last part to the summit over rocks. The best trail is marked with blue dots. From the summit you have an absolutely magnificent view of the open sea, the Bays of Alcúdia and Pollença and the Pensinsula of Cabo Pinar. The entire excursion may take between two and three hours, depending on how many times you stop along the way and how much time you spend at the summit. The day my friend and I went there were almost no other hikers so we had the summit all by ourselves and enjoyed a picnic there.

I totally recommend this excursion to adventurers who are not afraid of heights (important!) and quite fit as you will have to climb at the end of the trail. It's a stunning trail through pine forests and along huge, impressive cliffs that will take your breath away.
