The iconic Metropolis
Some thoughts for the weekend... New York, a city like no other!
It's unbelievable but true - I'm leaving this fabulous place in less than three months (more or less nonvoluntary)! It's been almost two years now... how time flies - two years that I haven't been to my home country Germany (thank God!), two years that I haven't seen my younger sister or grandparents and two years that I haven't woken up in the house I grew up in. I can't tell you how many things have changed...myself included. All sorts of amazing things happened to me in New York City, and if the Big Apple does not stop being so gorgeous I might never be able to leave! But all good things come to an end...
So here is the problem - I most likely have to study in Germany! Should I pay at least 150,000 for an American College or attend a German university that meets the same or even higher standards at nearly no charge? For this reason I am looking for a German city that might be eligible and up to New York City's lifestyle. I know this kind of city is nonexistent (at least not in Germany) but I am still after a place that has the charm of the Upper East Side, the coolness of SoHo, the dirtiness of Chinatown, the bustle of Midtown, the glamorous nightlife of Meatpacking, as well as the craziness of Brooklyn's Williamsburg and the ghetto style of the Bronx.
A metropolis that offers spectacular views just like from Manhattan's incredibly high rooftops or the ones of the sunsets at Hudson River, where I will turn my head everytime an insanely fashionable person passes by, a city whose citizens couldn't be more diverse (Asian, European, Latin American, Indian, Jewish, Afro-American...) a city that will overrun me, make me desperate and extremely happy at the same time, will let me experience the down moments of life and even more phenomenal times when I can freely live my amazing life.
Any suggestions where on earth I could find all this?

This is how we do
Good night, New York! |
Dear readers, if you ever wondered what my New Yorker party nights usually look like, here's the answer!
Mostly these unforgettable nights start with getting ready for the club with my sister (you know, trying to make the best of my decent looks), after that we're usually heading to either a friend's place or a restaurant (as you can see in this post - girls' dinner at RSVP in the South Village) to get into the mood. Afterwards we're finally starting clubbing, means we never stay at the same venue for the entire night (this time we favored LAVO but there are just too many good clubs in Manhattan, why not check them all out?). So this is basically what our nights out consist of: dinners at fancy restaurants, many cab rides (sometimes even limos or Escalades), a lot of ID showing to bouncers, meeting celebrities, checking out a different club every one or two hours, taking an insane amount of party pictures for my blog - and all this while having the greatest time of our life with our remarkably amazing friends!

Brooklyn we go hard
After spending more than one year and a half in New York City I felt the need to broaden my horizons by getting out of Manhattan and exploring Brooklyn instead... this is pretty much what I have done lately (except for planning my future, blogging here, writing my column for Joy magazine and work). As you can see I've been to all different parts of Brooklyn already - Williamsburg is by far my favorite! Home to innumerable artists, musicians, celebrities (I just met Alexa Chung on the subway the other day) and a bunch of incredibly cool and laid-back fashionistas, Williamsburg offers more than cool graffitis, adorable boutiques and cozy restaurants - diversity at its best!

Fashion's Night Out - New York City
Dear fashion-loving readers, today is the day - this post is solely dedicated to fashion!
I unfortunately couldn't make it to last year's Fashion's Night Out thus it was definitely a must on my to do list for 2012! I am a big fan of fashion, even though I don't care much about designers (of course I have a few favorites though) or brands - it's more the artistic part of the fashion world that attracts me. Unlike last year I didn't go to any fashion shows this year, I didn't spy on the hottest streetstyles or celebrities around Lincoln Center and I didn't follow the latest trends. If you have been following my blog for a couple months already you know that I'm always being honest with the reviews of my experiences in this fabulous place called New York City. To make a long story short - Fashion's Night Out was the only Mercedes Benz Fashion Week event I attended this year...
...and let me tell you this - it was not the amazingly fantastic fashion paradise I expected!
My sister and I started our night in the Meatpacking District, watching Nicole Richie getting interviewed for QVC, and ourselves getting interviewed by E! News. Soon we headed to one of my favorite designers - the fabulous Alexander McQueen - for drinks amongst the famous skull scarves and picking cute pink envelopes from a "wonderwall" that contained prizes. So far so good... next we wanted to check out the DvF store around the corner but we didn't expect the huge crowd of people waiting for us, a line over 2 blocks in front of the store! I truly love fashion - but I'm not waiting for 2 hours to get into a store just to admire some ridiculously expensive clothes that I wouldn't buy anyway and get free drinks, no thanks!
After all we decided that we might have a better chance of experiencing an absolutely amazing fashion night in SoHo - lo and behold, even more insane fashionistas going crazy on the New Yorker streets! There was no way to get through or to reach any store, even the phone service broke down (too many people instagramming nowadays) so the only stores my sister and I checked out were Chanel and Free People which I loved most due to the face painting, photo booth and enchanting clothes they had!
All in all, it was an experience - it was great and also kind of overwhelming to see how many people follow this fashion craze! Nevertheless, I was very glad when I could sit down later and relax at the restaurant Catch in Meatpacking just to take a breath in view of Ed Westwick aka Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl, who was enjoying his dinner right next to us, cheers!

Let the Rhythm change your World on the Floor
Welcome to the Darby - so exquisite, so fabulous! As you can see, my sister and I had a wonderful time at the club I've never been to before. The best thing about exploring new clubs is that you don't know any people there, believe me... even in a huge city like New York I have the feeling that I always bump into the same persons, especially when it comes to the nightlife scene! This time though it was different, the Darby is an ultimate experience - fancy décor, fashionable partygoers and a booming mix of house and hip hop - away from all the work stress and all the worries about my future, that's what I call a successful party night!
