Best Activities in Menorca

Hello there, I hope you're all enjoying this late summer as best as you can. It's a difficult year but we should never lose our hope and stay positive that better times are coming. To me personally, one of the hardest part of this year was not being able to travel. As you know I live on an island in the Mediterranean called Mallorca and I love living here cause my life feels like I'm constantly on vacation. However, every now and then it's nice to get away for a bit. One of my biggest passions is traveling, exploring new countries and their landscapes, cities, cultures and food. So this year was a bit tough for me in this regard. I spent a week in the Maldives at the beginning of the year and it was an amazing trip but that was about it for this year. So my boyfriend and I took two short island escapes this year to our neighbor island Menorca which I love so dearly. Menorca to me is like a vacation from Mallorca. It's more quiet, laid-back and more virgin. And even though it's a small and relaxed island there are thousands of things to do! I picked a few of my favorites for this post, so here we go.

Best Brunch in Menorca

My boyfriend and I started our second two-day trip to Menorca this year with an amazing brunch at Quitapenas Menorca. Our friend picked us up from the ferry in the morning and we went straight to Biniali, where this unusual restaurant is located. They call themselves a 'chiringuito de campo' which is an open-air restaurant in the countryside. I found this place on Instagram and because their food looked so good we decided to give it a try. And let me tell you, we were amazed by the place! Quitapenas really does what its name promises: It takes away your stress and pain. The restaurant is such a beautiful, laid-back place with so many details and cool retro vibes. You really do feel carefree when eating here. And their food, seriously, I haven't eaten such a delicious brunch in a long time! At Quitapenas you can expect healthy, colorful, tasty and surprising food. I kicked off my meal with a yummy matcha smoothie followed by an avocado and carrot hummus toast, both delicious! The boys tried toast with salmon, avocado and popcorn and benedict eggs with beetroot salsa. Omg, it was all so yummy! We ended up sharing our plates and I loved each and every one. For the sweet touch we ordered a French toast that came with vanilla cream and bacon, ugh I wanted to lick the plate. Never has a restaurant surprised me so much. Thank you for an amazing brunch, Quitapenas Menorca, we will surely come back!

Next Stop Binibeca

When visiting Menorca I always love coming to Binibeca. It was one of the first places I visited on this island (see the post here) and I fell in love with it back then. Binibeca is such a charming little town with its whitewashed houses and narrow, winding alleys. It's just a five-minute drive from Quitapenas and other beautiful little towns like Binisafuller. You can spend an hour here or two, depending on how many photos you take, haha. You can also go for a coffee here or just chill and wander this magical, white little town. It's up to you!

Cova d'en Xoroi, a truly magical Experience

We spent a relaxed afternoon at our friend's home and decided to go for a sunset drink at the Cova d'en Xoroi. Now I have to be honest, you better plan your visit of this 'cave club' in advance (you can even buy tickets online) because otherwise you may have to wait in line for over an hour like we did that day. We caught the last sunrays just in time before the sun eventually set because we really had to wait that long before they would let us in. Once inside though, you will not be disappointed. The Cova d'en Xoroi is an impressive club located in a natural cliff with several tunnels and terraces on which you can enjoy spectacular sea views day and night. It really is a unique place in Menorca (and mabye the world) that you should definitely visit when coming to this island. We were lucky because that day they had a live concert with an amazing duo that made the setting feel even more magical. Sipping rosé and listening to 'Your Song' by Elton John in a cave right next to the open sea, is there anything more romantic really?

S’Albufera des Grau Natural Reserve

On our second day of this trip it was a bit grey and cloudy so decided not to head to the beach directly but go for a relaxing walk in the natural reserve of S’Albufera des Grau which covers more than 5,000 hectares in which a large variety of animals and plants live. We have a similar natural reserve in Mallorca, just ten minutes from where we live, and we love going there for walks in nature. It just helps you disconnect from daily life, which can be stressful at times, and reconnect with Mother Nature. Miguel and I went for a two-hour walk with a picnic stop in between and we saw only three persons in the entire park. It was beautiful to have this calm, soothing place all for ourselves... and some turtles and birds.

Paella in Sa Mesquida

We ended our trip with a relaxing break at the beautiful beach of Sa Mesquida which our friend had recommended. The beach was absolutely amazing. Almost empty, surrounded by lush dunes, with golden sand and crystal clear water, what else could we have asked for? We spent a quiet hour here and swam a bit before meeting our friend for lunch at the nearby Cap Roig Restaurant. We ordered their seafood paella for lunch which was heavenly! The restaurant offers stunning views of the Sa Mesquida bay and surrounding cliffs. All in all, it was a short but very sweet trip to Menorca. We have discovered many new places, tried new restaurants and were beyond happy with all of them. A perfect island escape <3

Pescaturismo Mallorca

Hello everyone, I hope you're doing well! Today I have an exciting post for you about a cool activity to experience here in Mallorca. Save this for later if you plan to visit the island next year!

Pescaturismo Mallorca

Pescaturismo Mallorca is a cool concept that allows tourists to live an exclusive and personal experience with traditional Mallorcan fishermen on a fishing boat. When my mom and her husband came visit us in July we took them on a fishing trip on the Es Batlets fishing boat that belongs to my boyfriend's cousin and his wife. The fishing excursion along the coast started early in the morning with a breathtaking sunrise on the sea. It also allowed us to discover secret coves, caves and the most spectacular landscapes in the north of Mallorca, such as Coll Baix or Cabo Pinar, while learning all the secrets of fishing. That day we couldn't find any dolphins but if you are lucky, you will even spot some families near the boat. The excursion lasted about 4 hours and included a break we used to eat some delicious snacks that we all brought and to take a relaxing bath in Coll Baix, a secluded cove just behind Alcudia.

Fisherman for a Day with Es Batlets

Our 'captain' was Olga, who is the wife of my boyfriend's cousin and the only woman at the helm of a fishing boat in Mallorca. Together with her husband Carlos, and sometimes with their lovely daughters, they go out fishing in the morning and take tourists with them so they can experience the life of a fisherman (or woman) for a day. Their boat is called Es Batlets. It's a modern fiber boat, very spacious and almost ten metres long so there is lots of space to sit and walk around. We went fishing from Alcúdia for groupers, lobsters, scorpion fish and more. We even got lucky and caught some fish. It was so interesting to see the different kinds and learn more about them. Let me tell you, Olga is really the best person to accompany you on this adventure and prepare a breakfast with typical Majorcan products or freshly grilled fish from the nets. You will come home all happy and exhausted from a beautiful day on the sea. It's the perfect activity for families and groups of friends as you will have the boat all for yourselves. Highly recommended by me, who has seen and done lots of things here in Mallorca ;-)

Menorca Tips

Hey guys, I hope everyone is doing fine and enjoying summer as best as they can. Today I have a new blog post for you about a short trip we took to our neighbor island Menorca a few days ago. We visited so many new beautiful places that I'd like to share with you here.

Platja des Canutells
The small resort of Es Canutells has a beautiful small beach with crystal clear water and a natural harbor where you will find some traditional fisher boats.

Cala de Binibeca
If you're looking for a quiet swim in turquoise water this beach is for you. The sand beach of Binibeca is surrounded by rocks and shallow water, the perfect place for snorkeling, paddle boarding or family picnis.

Es Bruc Restaurant in Sant Tomas
One of the most popular places in Menorca for lunch by the sea. If you'd like to enjoy your paella, seafood or burger with stunning views of a golden beach and the open sea, head to Es Bruc Restaurant in Sant Tomas.

Cales Coves
One of my all time favorites on the island. The secluded coves of Cales Coves near Cala en Porter. It's a hot 20-minute walk in summer to reach the coves but it's so worth it! You will be rewarded with crystal clear water, a beautiful natural scenery with high cliffs, and only few visitors.

Es Grau
Both a natural reserve and large beach Es Grau is the ideal place for family picnis or excursions with friends. The water at the beach is shallow and very clear which makes it a perfect bathing spot for small kids. The natural reserve offers different hiking routes that allow you to watch wild birds, encounter turtles and connect with Mother Nature.

Son Parc
The area of Son Parc is usually quite touristy as it's a resort but due to Covid it was all abandoned and quiet this year. Go for a walk by the coast here to enjoy stunning views of the sandstones and wild sea.

I hope you liked this post! If you're looking for more Menorca tips check out my other posts about this beautiful island by clicking here.

Excursion to Penya des Migdia

Dear readers, I hope you are all doing fine. Since we are allowed to leave our houses here in Mallorca I have enjoyed being out in nature so much. The weather is simply amazing now in June so my friends and I have gone hiking quite a few times since the lockdown ended. Today I will take you on a virtual hike with me and my friend Mar up to the Penya des Migdia in Alcúdia. This top excursion has everything that makes hiking exciting.

How to get up to the Penya des Migdia

The medium difficult excursion starts at the parking lot of the Ermita de la Victòria. To the right of the former monastery, a wide path (sign "Talaia d´ Alcúdia, Collet des Coll Baix, Refugi") leads past a restaurant. Around 15 minutes after the start of the tour, you reach a place where you will find a wooden railing and steps on the left. Take this narrow path on the left because the route to Talaia d´Alcúdia runs straight ahead. The path then leads upwards, at first quite flat and then slightly up and down. From this first part of the trail you can already enjoy a spectacular view of the Bay of Pollença and the Formentor peninsula.

The hike leads on a narrow path directly along the cliffs to a narrow passage through an old watchtower. Once you have passed this tower you will have to climb the last part to the summit over rocks. The best trail is marked with blue dots. From the summit you have an absolutely magnificent view of the open sea, the Bays of Alcúdia and Pollença and the Pensinsula of Cabo Pinar. The entire excursion may take between two and three hours, depending on how many times you stop along the way and how much time you spend at the summit. The day my friend and I went there were almost no other hikers so we had the summit all by ourselves and enjoyed a picnic there.

I totally recommend this excursion to adventurers who are not afraid of heights (important!) and quite fit as you will have to climb at the end of the trail. It's a stunning trail through pine forests and along huge, impressive cliffs that will take your breath away.
