Mallorca Wedding Inspiration with Frieda Therés

Hello there, everyone. How are you doing during these difficult times? Here in Spain we are still locked down, so staying inside, but hope to be able to go out soon. We all long to enjoy nature and some fresh air, see our family and friends, and get back to normal life.

White and Gold Wedding Inspiration

Today I have some beautiful photos for you that will surely make you dream a bit. Last April, about a year ago now, my boyfriend and I had a wedding photo shoot with the lovely Koko of Koko Photography and the team of the online bridal magazine Frieda Therés here in Mallorca. We spent a fun and wonderful day shooting at Formentor, a Royal Hideaway Hotel. That place is a dream! I absolutely loved the sea view from their terraces and their beautiful gardens. My boyfriend Miguel was such a great shooting partner and Koko and the whole team made us feel so comfortable. Working with Koko is easy and fun, and we were amazed by the outcome of this shoot, we couldn't love the photos more! I also really liked the elegant wedding dress by Kloster Festfein Boutique that I got to wear, as well as the beautiful white and golden decor the team chose for the shoot. It's a timeless color combo perfect for summer weddings. After taking hundreds of photos at the hotel, beach and in the mountains, and even staging a fake wedding (haha), we finished the shoot at a cozy Mediterranean finca where we all enjoyed dinner together after a long day.

Thank you for a great shooting and these stunning photos, Koko and all the wonderful people who participated. We couldn't have wished for a better team <3

Salt des Freu Excursion

Dear readers, I sincerely hope you and your families are doing well and hanging in there during this crazy and uncertain time. What a strange world we are living in right now. My heart is truly with you all. I know most of us are staying home right now, including us here in Spain, so I wanted to write a new post for you guys to offer you something to read and also something to look forward to once all this is over.

Es Salt des Freu in Mallorca

Today's post is about a day excursion to Orient my boyfriend and I did on a sunny day this winter. We explored the natural "Es Salt des Freu" waterfalls for the first time and let me tell you, it was such a magical experience! During winter time, after heavy rainfall, the Torrent de Coanegra river fills up and turns into beautiful springs and waterfalls hidden in a fairytale forest near Orient, a little village located in Mallorca's Serra de Tramuntana. You can only enjoy this natural spectacle for a few days during the year. We were lucky to see the waterfalls in sunlight which made our excursion even more magical.

This untouched piece of earth is located just a few kilometers from the village of Orient on the road from Bunyola to Alaro. We have accessed Orient via Alaro though, coming from Alcudia. The beginning of the route is signposted with a wooden sign that shows the way to Santa Maria. It's an easy hiking route (approx. 20 minutes) across the country on the "Camí des Freu" path lined with dry stone walls. The path is a bit rocky and muddy after rain so you better wear older shoes or rain boots. After passing some olive trees, a beautiful widespread countryside and herds of sheep you will reach the river and the first springs.

It's a bit tricky to cross the water to get to the other side of the river. We crossed the stream to the right and enjoyed the first sight of the crystal clear water spouting between moss-covered rocks and trees. You could think a fairy or little dwarf shows up any moment in this magical forest. After resting there for a bit we continued our way down until we reached a hill from where we could admire the biggest waterfall from above. Watching the amount and force of the water running down the hill was very impressive!

If you look further down the valley, you will see a small path you can follow. Once at the bottom, you can experience the "Es Salt des Freu" waterfall in all its glory. It is much bigger than it looks here in my photos! If you get a little closer you get really wet so be careful with your phone or camera.

Even though we visited on a Sunday noon and there were lots of visitors when we arrived we could still enjoy the waterfalls in absolute peace. You can always find a spot where there are no people and many families also left during lunch time. Furthermore, you will most likely see some people wearing a wetsuit and helmet. These are the outdoor sports fans who are doing a canyoning tour. It must be so much fun hiking, sliding and climbing through a canyon and jumping or swimming in the turquoise water. I will definitely come back one year for a canyoning tour.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post. I would recommend this excursion to anyone (especially families) visiting the island in winter. Exploring "Es Salt des Freu" is such a magical, calming experience and will make you appreciate our beautiful Earth even more. Please stay healthy and safe, everyone! Until next time <3

Weekend in Madrid

Hey my lovely readers, I hope you're having a fantastic first month of the year! Time always flies in January, don't you think so? Today I have a new post for you about the wonderful weekend my boyfriend and I spent in Madrid for his birthday at the beginning of the month. I will share some Madrid tips here with you guys, hope you'll like them!

How to spend a Weekend in Madrid

I've been living in Spain for three years now and have never been to its capital before, can you believe it? I have travelled through Madrid several times but have never left the airport so I was always longing to go and explore the city one day! And is there a more perfect reason to go visit the metropolis than for your boyfriend's birthday? I surprised Miguel with a spontaneous birthday trip on Thursday, telling him to pack some stuff for Friday night. We left late in the evening on Friday after work and didn't arrive at our hostel until midnight so we went right to bed. We stayed at Hostal Mendoza, in the heart of the city, just a few steps from the Gran Vía, La Puerta del Sol and other city hot spots. A friend had recommended the hostel and we were not disappointed. We loved the hostel's location, the spacious, modern room and the comfortable bed, and were very happy with the friendly and helpful service. It was the perfect accommodation for a short getaway.

We spent two entire days in Madrid, Saturday and Sunday, and spent both days basically just walking around doing some sightseeing and trying delicious food in hip restaurants. To make this post a bit easier to read I will just list some things we've done and restaurants we've been to so you get a short overview:

What to see in Madrid

  • Gran Vía
  • Puerta del Sol
  • Plaza Mayor
  • Palacio Real de Madrid, Almudena Cathedral and Campo del Moro Park
  • Templo de Debod
  • The neighborhoods of Malasaña, Chueca and La Latina
  • Puerta de Alcalá
  • Palacio de Cibeles
  • El Retiro Park and Palacio de Cristal

Where to eat in Madrid

I hope you guys will be able to check out a few of these places when visiting Madrid, I can highly recommend them. I will definitely come back to the city to try more restaurants and see some galleries and museums. This time we only did sightseeing since it was my first trip to the capital but I'd surely love to get to know more hidden spots and cool corners of Madrid!
