Alaró Castle

Hey everyone, I hope you're all having a great Friday despite the difficult situation! My boyfriend and I went out for a long walk by the sea this morning which was sooo relaxing yet energizing. Since last Saturday we're allowed to go out for a few hours in the morning and evening here in Spain and let me tell you, it gives me such a sense of freedom just to be allowed to leave the house for a while every day. It frees my mind and makes me feel like all this comes to an end bit by bit. We won't get back to 'normal' life until June at least but you slowly start to notice a bit of freedom. We are only allowed to go for a walk or exercise in our home town for now which makes me long for excursions like the one I'm posting about today even more...

Excursion to Alaró Castle

Before the lockdown started here in Spain, my boyfriend and I went for a long, beautiful day excursion to Alaró Castle in February. We left in the morning to make sure we won't meet too many people up by the castle. The charming town of Alaró is located in the middle of the island, not far from Palma de Mallorca. We parked our car outside of the town centre next to a road that led to the castle of Alaró which is located on a high, rocky mountain above the town. From there we started our excursion which took way longer than we expected, haha. After about one and a half hours we got to a popular restaurant which is called Es Verger. It's located in the mountains on the way to Alaró Castle and offers delicious typical Mallorcan cuisine. We didn't stop here though but kept walking all the way up to the castle. If you're a bit less adventurous or come with kids you can drive all the way up to the restaurant and park your car there to walk the rest to the castle. From the restaurant to the castle it took us about another hour. Luckily we packed some snacks and sandwiches so once we got to the castle we had a relaxing picnic. Even though it's an easy road up to the castle it's quite steep and exhausting at times so I welcomed a little bit of rest on top of the mountain.

Alaró Castle is made up of some ancient walls and ruins of what used to be an impressive castle. There is also a hilltop chapel and another restaurant/bar. From the top of the mountain you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views stretching across the whole island. The Serrra de Tramuntana in the back, the bay of Palma in the front and many mountains and forests to the left and right. I think Alaró Castle is my new favorite place here in Mallorca for stunning views and fun excursions. My photos really can't show how impressive the views from this place are. Miguel and I spent a good hour on top of the mountain taking in these views, exploring the ruins and resting. Our way down was of course a bit faster and my legs felt so sore once we reached our car, I could barely walk, haha.

If you should come to this area of Mallorca during any season except summer I warmly recommend this excursion. It may be challenging but believe me, the views will make up for the sore legs!

Mallorca Wedding Inspiration with Frieda Therés

Hello there, everyone. How are you doing during these difficult times? Here in Spain we are still locked down, so staying inside, but hope to be able to go out soon. We all long to enjoy nature and some fresh air, see our family and friends, and get back to normal life.

White and Gold Wedding Inspiration

Today I have some beautiful photos for you that will surely make you dream a bit. Last April, about a year ago now, my boyfriend and I had a wedding photo shoot with the lovely Koko of Koko Photography and the team of the online bridal magazine Frieda Therés here in Mallorca. We spent a fun and wonderful day shooting at Formentor, a Royal Hideaway Hotel. That place is a dream! I absolutely loved the sea view from their terraces and their beautiful gardens. My boyfriend Miguel was such a great shooting partner and Koko and the whole team made us feel so comfortable. Working with Koko is easy and fun, and we were amazed by the outcome of this shoot, we couldn't love the photos more! I also really liked the elegant wedding dress by Kloster Festfein Boutique that I got to wear, as well as the beautiful white and golden decor the team chose for the shoot. It's a timeless color combo perfect for summer weddings. After taking hundreds of photos at the hotel, beach and in the mountains, and even staging a fake wedding (haha), we finished the shoot at a cozy Mediterranean finca where we all enjoyed dinner together after a long day.

Thank you for a great shooting and these stunning photos, Koko and all the wonderful people who participated. We couldn't have wished for a better team <3

Salt des Freu Excursion

Dear readers, I sincerely hope you and your families are doing well and hanging in there during this crazy and uncertain time. What a strange world we are living in right now. My heart is truly with you all. I know most of us are staying home right now, including us here in Spain, so I wanted to write a new post for you guys to offer you something to read and also something to look forward to once all this is over.

Es Salt des Freu in Mallorca

Today's post is about a day excursion to Orient my boyfriend and I did on a sunny day this winter. We explored the natural "Es Salt des Freu" waterfalls for the first time and let me tell you, it was such a magical experience! During winter time, after heavy rainfall, the Torrent de Coanegra river fills up and turns into beautiful springs and waterfalls hidden in a fairytale forest near Orient, a little village located in Mallorca's Serra de Tramuntana. You can only enjoy this natural spectacle for a few days during the year. We were lucky to see the waterfalls in sunlight which made our excursion even more magical.

This untouched piece of earth is located just a few kilometers from the village of Orient on the road from Bunyola to Alaro. We have accessed Orient via Alaro though, coming from Alcudia. The beginning of the route is signposted with a wooden sign that shows the way to Santa Maria. It's an easy hiking route (approx. 20 minutes) across the country on the "Camí des Freu" path lined with dry stone walls. The path is a bit rocky and muddy after rain so you better wear older shoes or rain boots. After passing some olive trees, a beautiful widespread countryside and herds of sheep you will reach the river and the first springs.

It's a bit tricky to cross the water to get to the other side of the river. We crossed the stream to the right and enjoyed the first sight of the crystal clear water spouting between moss-covered rocks and trees. You could think a fairy or little dwarf shows up any moment in this magical forest. After resting there for a bit we continued our way down until we reached a hill from where we could admire the biggest waterfall from above. Watching the amount and force of the water running down the hill was very impressive!

If you look further down the valley, you will see a small path you can follow. Once at the bottom, you can experience the "Es Salt des Freu" waterfall in all its glory. It is much bigger than it looks here in my photos! If you get a little closer you get really wet so be careful with your phone or camera.

Even though we visited on a Sunday noon and there were lots of visitors when we arrived we could still enjoy the waterfalls in absolute peace. You can always find a spot where there are no people and many families also left during lunch time. Furthermore, you will most likely see some people wearing a wetsuit and helmet. These are the outdoor sports fans who are doing a canyoning tour. It must be so much fun hiking, sliding and climbing through a canyon and jumping or swimming in the turquoise water. I will definitely come back one year for a canyoning tour.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post. I would recommend this excursion to anyone (especially families) visiting the island in winter. Exploring "Es Salt des Freu" is such a magical, calming experience and will make you appreciate our beautiful Earth even more. Please stay healthy and safe, everyone! Until next time <3
