Who is Victoria?

Today's post is about my favorite American retailer of the sexiest lingerie - Victoria's Secret, just gotta love it! Known for its seducing bras and panties, its insanely sexy and over the top annual fashion show and the world's most beautiful girls, Victoria's Secret has always embodied sexiness, seduction and beauty paired with girl power.
However, did you never ask yourself who exactly Victoria is? Many of you may think that our former Posh Spice Victoria Beckham has founded this brand - whoops, wrong! It was actually founded by a guy - Roy Raymond - which also leads me to the question why lots of classic, very talented designers (Dior, Cavalli, Valentino, Lagerfeld) are male... just a casual thought. In fact Raymond's idea was a very simple one: he established a store where men could feel comfortable buying lingerie at, what a nice guy!
So how come the brand's name is Victoria's Secret? The mystery - who is Victoria? It likely refers to the British queen Victoria, on the contrary some people say that the name refers to the Victorian era architecture and furnishing in the first stores (meant to create a comfortable environment for men). In my opinion both solutions are conclusive.
Anyway, it's a secret, right?

  1. I have no idea but I've always heard that he founded the brand because he wanted to buy sexy lingerie for his wife, Victoria, but he found it really difficult for men to find a good store to go and shop. Later on he sold his company for a couple of million dollars and a year later the business was booming and worth a lot more than he had gotten, after which he commited suicide by jumping of a bridge. Okay, that's kind of morbid and I have no idea if it's the truth but it's what people have been telling me. Anyway, I love the brand!
